About Us

Whatever the project, we want every RNC client to feel we have delivered an assignment above and beyond their expectations. We don't give clients something off the shelf; we believe in delivering assignments bespoke to each client. We are praised for the detail and depth of our work.

RNC spends time getting to know our clients. We start every project with a meeting to ensure we share a clarity of purpose. RNC works to a mutually agreed brief; sometimes, we'll talk to you if we think your brief needs to change.

All assignments have regular review milestones, and we welcome our clients to get in touch at any time during a project.

Company History

RNC was founded by Richard Newton in 2011, as he wanted to share his skills and extensive experience built through a 20-year-long career in the charity sector.

His leadership roles include Head of Commercial for Prince's Trust Cymru, Director Cymru for Rathbone and senior fundraising roles at Barnardo's and Marie Curie.

Since 2011 Richard Newton Consulting has grown, from operating as a sole-trader through to the present team of consultants supported by a wider network of associates.

We have developed a client base, across the UK alongside a small portfolio of international work.

Our clients range from large international charities that turn over hundreds of millions of pounds, to small volunteer led organisations. Some clients work with us on a retained basis and others on a project basis.

Our aim is to build a relationship that sustains and works for everybody involved.

Why Choose Us

You can commission RNC to deliver a distinct piece of work or develop a long-term relationship with us to support your resilience and growth. We're recognised for excellence, tailoring support to a client's needs and value for money.

Our work is informed by our team's collective experience and deep understanding of the not-for-profit sector. The majority of RNC's team have worked in the sector for over 20 years. We know the pressures of competing deadlines, changing priorities and, sometimes, that sense of firefighting.

We add capacity, insight, and support organisations to focus.

We want our work to have a lasting impact.

Our clients include Wales' flagship national arts, heritage and cultural organisations, charities with multi-million turnovers, faith organisations to volunteer-led micro-organisations. Our clients include organisations enriched by people with lived experience, including D/deaf and disabled people, refugees, culturally diverse and minoritised communities, and care-experienced young people.

Based in Cardiff, we operate through a team across England and Wales.

"Before we started working with Richard Newton Consulting, we were very reliant on a single source of funding. This meant that we were always susceptible to the constant threat of public sector cuts and funding changes. In the last 9 months they have set the foundations for a much broader financial base and enabled us to plan for future development of our organisation. We now have funding from a number of different sources including the Lottery, the Arts Council of Wales and the Co-op and we are looking forward to the time when we have an even wider funding foundation and a cohesive strategy for our future sustainability. Kevin Jakeway – Inside Out Cymru

Value for money

We may be appointed on an on-going or interim basis because a client doesn't have the staff or volunteer capacity, or we're engaged to share our specialist knowledge, skills, and experience.

Offering our clients value for money has been key to our growth.

Many clients develop a long-standing relationship with RNC. Organisations often come to us because of word-of-mouth recommendations.

Our highly experienced and skilled team includes researchers and support staff, and we draw on our extensive resource library. The breadth of our team and knowledge means we develop realistic project costings for each client and assignment. We charge less for tasks such as administration and funder research, and we offer a sliding scale for consultants, dependent on their experience.

We know our approach of pricing by task, rather than a universal is essential given the resource pressures not-for-profit organisations face.
